The practice of yoga is gaining popularity around the world with people looking to improve their physical and mental health and overall well-being. Yoga can make you stronger, more flexible, and improve your metabolism. Yoga can also help reduce stress from your busy life and give you energy. To get you started, we have gathered some of the most common poses across disciplines and levels to help you on your journey.

1. Downward Facing Dog, Adho Mukah Svanasana

A famous pose, it can be deceptively difficult. Though a resting pose, it may take a while for this pose to feel relaxing. The downward dog pose stretches and strengthens your legs and spine while strengthening your arms. Don’t be ashamed of bending your legs a little (or a lot) before this pose comes naturally to you.

2. Warrior I, Virabhadrasana I

Like its namesake, this pose evokes strength and will tone your entire body. Warrior I targets your legs, hips, buttocks, and thighs while lengthening and toning your spine and opening your chest and shoulders. It’s also a great pose to concentrate on aligning your body.

3. Warrior II, Virabhadrasana II

Target your legs with this powerful pose. It will help your develop strength, endurance, and discipline. Feel the burn while concentrating on balancing your body.

4. Cat-Cow Stretch, Chakravakasana

Technically two poses, practiced together these poses are great for your back and neck. When combined, it can even help reduce anxiety and improve concentration. This pose is especially important if you are a yoga newbie.

5. Mountain Pose, Tadasana

Though it may not be physically taxing, this pose gives you precious moments to reflect. Increase your mental endurance and focus your awareness inward as you root your legs to the earth. Find a moment of calm during your busy day.

6. Tree Pose, Vrksasana

This pose strengthens your legs and back, stretches your inner thighs, chest and shoulders, while improving balance and forcing concentration. Balancing poses like the tree pose encompasses the positive dual nature of yoga in benefiting both physical and mental health as it powers and stabilizes your body and aids in focusing the mind.

7. Triangle Pose, Utthita Trikonasana

Another balancing pose, the triangle pose combines stretching with strengthening and balance work and gives you a full mind-body experience. It is considered a quintessential standing pose in many styles of yoga. While toning the legs, hips, and abs, the added stretch can relieve stiffness in the spine. The added difficulty of balance is a vital skill to further your practice.

8. Child’s Pose, Balasana

A welcome break between more challenging poses. This pose is extremely effective in relaxing the mind and body while stretching the back, calves, and ankles

In today’s fast-paced world, the daily stresses of life can build quickly. Always reachable on our mobile devices, many of us have endless ‘to-do’ lists that seem impossible. By running from errand to errand, always plugged in to technology, we rarely give our bodies the break they need to recuperate. A retreat can be the perfect opportunity for you to restore your mind and body to an optimum level of wellness and live a more balanced and healthy life upon your return home. Although there are many health benefits of retreats, we have listed a few below.

1. Detox

Eating healthy can be a time consuming process that many people don’t indulge in. Many retreats focus on taking care of every aspect of your well being, and it starts with the food you eat to fuel your body. If you go on a retreat, you can expect well thought out meals that are not only clean, organic, and nutritious but also delicious.

2. Unplug

It seems like we are always in front of a screen these days, the computer at work, the television when we’re home, and our phones at all times in between. Leave your chargers at home, give your eyes a break, and spend some time offline with your thoughts so you can work on your well being without any distractions.

3. Break from Routine

It’s easy to fall in a continuous cycle for the sake of convenience. But if you are not happy with your routine, it can have detrimental effects on your mental and physical health. Take this chance to do something different and learn how to build a life that makes your happier.

4. Exercise

Are you too tired to exercise when you come home after working all day? We all have good intentions but keeping up with our physical fitness can be a demanding task when we all lead such busy lives. Retreats are an excellent way to work on your fitness goals. You can find many active retreats at varying levels of intensity (such as yoga, stand-up paddle boarding, etc.).

5. Connect with Others

Whether you are going on a retreat by yourself, with a friend, or with your family, being surrounded by other like-minded people is sure to invigorate you. Retreats facilitate a powerful positive atmosphere and can be very social if you want it to be. Genuine interaction and laughter can do wonders for your health. Make some new lifelong friends who will support you in your journey to a new you.

6. Pamper Yourself

Retreats afford you the chance to take some much needed time for yourself. Take full advantage of this time by pampering yourself and healing your body with a massage, facial, or other wellness treatments. Many retreats have first-rate spa facilities onsite that will leave you rejuvenated.

7. Relax and Unwind

Without your everyday demands and distractions, you will finally have time to do the activities that you have always wanted to do. Take a walk, go to the beach, read a book, or meditate. Simply getting away to a more peaceful atmosphere will reduce your stress levels exponentially and restore your physical and mental health.

8. Get out of Your Head

There’s no better way to get out of your head and break the pattern of negative/abusive thoughts than putting yourself in an environment of striking beauty. A beautiful retreat sanctuary in a lush tropical environment with panoramic ocean and mountain views is the perfect solution for a mind awash with negativity. Transcend your own mind and merge with the beauty of paradise!

corporate retreat provides a rare platform for employees to get together outside of the office and reflect on their work and the future of the company. For you, the employee, corporate retreats provide a prime opportunity to get noticed. Make sure you do by following these six things in mind.

1. Be Present

With so much technology around us, we’re used to being accessible for work 24/7. But the whole point of a corporate retreat is taking a step back from business! Leave the screens (phone, tablet, laptop) in your room and participate fully in all events!

2. Be Engaging

A corporate retreat is the perfect opportunity to network within your company. Take this chance and strike up a conversation with the VP or someone in another department to learn more about the business and make a new connection. You never know who will open doors for you.

3. Be Yourself

Since you’re in a more relaxed and casual environment than the boardroom, take this opportunity to share a different side of you. Share new ideas you may have for the business, new approaches you would like to take, let your coworkers get to know the real you.

4. Be a Good Student

Take the time to absorb all of the things you learn during your retreat. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and take notes. Seek out key decision makers within your company and ask insightful questions. Your employers will definitely take note and appreciate your efforts.

5. Be a Team Player

Corporate retreats usually incorporate a physical or mental team building exercise in addition to a variety of other activities designed to assess employee reaction or build new skills. Make sure that you take on these activities with gusto; many believe these exercises are indicative of future action.

6. Be Passionate

No matter what your retreat entails, make sure you have your game face on. Your company is rewarding you for your hard work and has given you an opportunity to build your skillset and network. Show them your gratitude by being an engaging participant in all activities and taking full advantage of this opportunity.

Most corporations enthusiastically embrace holiday parties and the occasional after work get together as an icebreaker and time to let employees out of their shells (or cubicles) but such sporadic and fleeting gatherings cannot provide the many benefits of a corporate retreat, listed below.

1. Reflect

A retreat provides the perfect platform for business owners and key decision makers to step back from their busy work life and take a more macro perspective to their work or management style.

2. Inspire

A new environment can spur creativity and innovation among employees. Just being outside the office and providing a free forum for ideas can lead to new procedures, business, and more profits for your company.

3. Reward

Many studies have shown that happier workers are often more productive. Take this chance to reward your employees for all of their hard work and let them unwind. Corporate retreats allow management to show their gratitude and appreciation towards their employees and reward them for professional growth.

4. Unite

Some coworkers sit next to each other everyday but never get to really know each other. A fun, offsite retreat can provide the perfect opportunity for workers to interact, have fun, and build everlasting bonds that can spur productivity and engagement back in the office.

5. Learn

A corporate retreat is an ideal time to teach your employees a new skillset. There is plenty of time without being bogged down by work and the stress-free environment is great for mastering new skills in a short period of time.

6. Recruit

People often show their true colors in a more relaxed environment. HR managers can take this time to evaluate potential hires, evaluate managers’ relationships and behaviors with team members, and assess new employees acclimation in the office.

7. Motivate

All in all, a retreat is a great way to inspire your team. Give them a break, set them loose in a new and exciting environment, and build relationships and memories. It is a chance for key staff to see why they are putting so much work and effort forward.

Any time is the best time to be in Maui. The weather in Hawaii is consistently warm most of the year, so you can enjoy the many pristine beaches all year round. However, there are technically two seasons in Hawaii, the dry (April to October) and wet season (November to March). Maui vacationers can be grateful for the island’s many microclimates; there are so many different climate zones that it rarely rains for three days straight in one spot! You can easily travel 20 minutes to another part of the island to escape the rain and bake in the sun!

Maui’s high season – the peak season for visitors and crowds – is during the winter months from mid-December through March or April. Visitors from the mainland flock to the islands to escape the harsh winter months. During this time, the island is at its peak. Hotels, restaurants, and tours are booked to its full capacity and you may have deal with some crowds. Maui can also get crowded during the summer when the island is a popular summer vacation destination for families. However, with many beaches and attractions all over the island, it is easily avoidable.

When planning your vacation, we suggest considering what activities you’d like to participate in. As mentioned above, the two seasons in Maui do not greatly affect the island’s temperature. Watersports and beaches can be enjoyed all year around. The greatest seasonal attractions are whale-watching and big wave surfing. Thousands of visitors come to Maui just to watch the migratory Humpback whales in the warm waters off western Maui in the winter months (generally from December until May). You can easily spot whales from the beach, surfboard, kayak, or even the golf course! Many visitors also gather to eagerly watch professional surfers attempt monster waves at Peahi or “Jaws”, at Ho’okipa Beach or at Honolua Bay.

If you are looking to avoid the crowds and save a little money, it is best to book your vacation during the off season in the spring or the fall. The weather will be reliably sunny, and you may get a deal in terms of hotel rates and airfare.

From the moment you step off the plane, Maui’s beautiful scenery is sure to inspire you. A tropical paradise with numerous trails through tropical rainforests and countless stretches of pristine beaches, there is much to do for visitors looking for an adventure in addition to a bit of R and R.

1. Take a Hike

See the real Maui deep in the wilderness, experience the beauty of the Valley Isle. There are many trails for you to choose from based on scenery, length, and difficulty. If you are looking for a light hike with lush tropical greens and waterfalls, go to Iao Valley State Park. For a real challenge, climb to the top of Haleakala, the largest dormant volcano in the world. Take the Keeneheehee (“sliding sands”) trail down the crater to witness volcanic landscapes and rare endemic plants and bird species. To really explore the sacred ‘aina of Maui, there are many guides on the island who can take you to the secret spots deep into the wild!

2. Get a Bird’s Eye View

One of the fastest growing eco-friendly activities in the world, Maui is the perfect spot to try out a zipline adventure with friends and family! Experience the greatest adrenaline rush as you soar over the oceans at Kaanapali. Or feel like a bird as you fly through the slopes of Haleakala. Ziplining is also a great way for visitors to learn about the unique environment and culture of Maui. Encounter the natural wonder of Maui and see nature as you’ve never done before.

3. Sail Away

Travel the seas in style! This is a must-do activity especially if you are here during whale season. But even if it’s not, you will probably see a pod of dolphins on the way to your destination. There are many cruise options available on the island. Glass boat tours are very popular for families but if you are feeling more adventurous, sail to neighbor island Lanai or Molokini Crater for pristine snorkeling, scuba, or snuba diving!

4. Ride the Waves

The birthplace of surfing, Maui is one of the most sought-after surf destinations in the world. For the experienced, there is Honolua Bay or Peahi, aka “Jaws” but there are plenty of less intimidating spots that are ideal for beginners on the west and south shores. For an alternative, try stand-up paddle boarding, larger boards provide easier balance while the paddle lends stability in addition to working your core.

5. Cycling

Virtually every route on Maui is a scenic route. Coupled with great weather, many roads with paved shoulders and bike paths and many mountain trails, Maui is an ideal place to ride all year long. Cycle down the slopes of Haleakala or through one of the many beach parks on the island! You can find suitable gear through the many shops on-island from professional grade equipment or a bike for a breezy beachside ride.

1. Soak Up the Sun

They don’t call Hawaii paradise for nothing!  Maui visitors enjoy mild weather all year long.  Daytime temperatures average at around the high seventies in the winter months and the mid-eighties in the summer months. The island can get wet in some parts but it never rains for long, only long enough to make a rainbow, hence the moniker, “The Rainbow State”. The water can be enjoyed yearlong, winter temperatures averaging in the mid-seventies in the winter and the low-eighties in the summer. So make sure you remember to bring your bathing suit so you can relax at the beach!

2. Eat Local, Eat Well

Eating a healthy and balanced diet can be challenging despite your best efforts. Making the food at your retreat a vital factor to help you heal from the inside.  The food at your retreat in Maui is guaranteed to be delicious and nutritious, made from the best local and organic ingredients. The soil and climate of Hawaii makes it an ideal location to grow a number of crops. Though famous for pineapple, Maui farms grow many different kinds of vegetables and fruit as evidenced by the lively local farmers markets and agricultural tours that residents and visitors alike flock to. Let yourself enjoy your food without guilt or concern for ingredients.

3. Cross Off Your Bucket List

A retreat is the perfect venue to sit back, relax, and take the break that you truly need. It’s an opportunity for self-discovery and to cross a location off your bucket list. Why not go out of your comfort zone and go somewhere you’ve always wanted to see before? Maui has enchanted and attracted visitors from all over the world, with its clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and wild mountains that inspired Georgia O’Keefe, Mark Twain, and more. In addition, as a premium vacation destination, expect first-rate service and five-star amenities with a focus on spreading the Aloha spirit. Indulge yourself in every sense of the word.

4. Experience Nature, Go on an Adventure

Ideal weather allows Maui visitors to explore all of the islands from sea to rainforest any day of the week. Besides any planned retreat activities, spend your holiday exploring all that Maui has to offer. Wake up early and watch the sun rise over the Haleakala Mountain. Hike through the Maui rainforest, maybe even go canyoneering down one of Maui’s many waterfalls. Grab a few friends and participate in an outrigger canoe race just like the ancient Hawaiians used to. Or simply grab a towel, a coconut handpicked that very morning and head to the beach with a good book. There’s no wrong way to send your time on Maui.

You’ve probably heard about Maui’s beautiful beaches, scenic jungles and top rated hotels. Voted “Top Island” in the world by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine 20 years in a row, Maui really is no ka oi, “the best”. We hope these facts will further entice you to visit our island and experience all that Maui has to offer!

1. Clear Skies

Hawaii is one of four states to ban billboards, allowing you to enjoy the open sky from anywhere on the islands. Maui is also home to the Haleakala high Altitude Observatory, which is considered to be one of the best astronomical and space surveillance sites in the world.

2. Haleakala, The House of the Sun

According to legends, the demigod Maui snared the sun at the mountain’s summit, ordering it to move slower across the sky. The Haleakala volcano is the largest dormant volcano in the world, its crater is large enough to hold the entire island of Manhattan. A United Nations International Biosphere Reserve, Haleakala National park is home to some of the world’s rarest birds, invertebrates, and plants. Including the silversword flower, which blooms only once at the end of its lifetime taking between 15 to 50 years to grow.

3. Maui Gold

The Maui Gold Brand of pineapple has over three times the amount of Vitamin C than any other type of pineapple in the world. Making it an ideal snack to reinvigorate your skin after spending the day in the sun. In total, Hawaii produces about 320,000 tons of pineapple each year!

4. Deep Roots

The town of Lahaina, Hawaii’s state capital before 1850, is home to the largest Banyan tree in the world. Originally planted in 1873, the tree now inhabits over an acre of land in the old whaling town, which plays host to the Humpback Whale who winters there before returning to Alaska.

5. The Road to Hana

The famous Road to Hana is a 55 mile long adventure along a narrow road, featuring 617 turns, 26 bridges, and some of the most breathtaking ocean scenic views in the world. It is a must-see for visitors.

6. A Collection of Islands

Maui County includes the island of Maui, Lanai, Kaho’olawe, and Molokai. The most famous and largest of the five, the island of Maui is actually the second largest of the 8 main Hawaiian islands. Lanai was once home to the world’s largest pineapple plantation and at one point, produced over 75% of the world’s pineapple and was nicknamed “The Pineapple Isle”. The island of Lanai is considered Hawaii’s most secluded island and has only three paved roads and no stop lights or traffic signal (but one stop sign). Hulope Bay is a marine preserve and is considered to be one of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world; day cruises from Maui are very popular.

Maui boasts so many pristine white sand beaches that it may be difficult to choose which beach to visit during your vacation. Though it is difficult to choose favorites, we have prepared a list of the 8 most scenic beaches in Maui.

1. HO’OKIPA BEACH

This famous beach is responsible for Maui’s designation as the windsurfing capital of the world. The site of two major world-class surf competitions, this north side beach attracts expert surfers from around the world. Visitors and locals alike gather to watch the kite and wind surfers tackle impressive swells on the convenient grassy lookout. This beach is also a popular spot to see sea turtles come to shore during the winter months.

2. BALDWIN BEACH

Situated in the town of Paia, voted the happiest seaside town, Baldwin Beach is a popular beach for gatherings. With a beautiful large sandy beach and plenty of grassy and shady areas, it’s a perfect place to relax with friends and family. The shore break surf attracts many body surfers and body boarders.

3. KA’ANAPALI BEACH/BLACK ROCK

Voted “Best Beach” by Conde Nast Traveler, this famous beach is perfect: crystal clear water, soft white sand beaches, and a scenic lava rock cliff on the northern edge. With unobstructed views, it is a great place to watch the beautiful Hawaiian sunset from the west side of the island. Many have even claimed to see the “green flash” from this beach. A Hawaiian cliff diving ceremony is also performed every afternoon.

4. BIG BEACH/MAKENA BEACH

One of the longest and widest beaches in the Hawaiian islands, it is also one of the most breathtaking beaches in Maui. Bordered by a thick green forest and the Haleakala mountains, with a clear view of the Molokini Crater and Kaho’olawe from the shore, this beach is striking from every angle. Though popular with residents and visitors alike, the vast white sand beach never feels crowded and has plenty of room for activities and leisurely walks for you to enjoy the scenery and the sunset.

5. HONOLUA BAY

Located within a marine life preserve, this secluded beach has a quiet charm. Far from the hustle and bustle of town, you will not see a sailboat in sight. The rocky beach is located between grassy cliffs that will make you feel miles away from the resorts in West Maui. The water is so clear and the coral formations so vast that you can see them through the water! The short walk through the forest to get to the bay from the road itself is breathtaking.

6. KAMA’OLE PARK I, II, III

Divided into three beach areas, each space has its own appeal but boasts the same spectacular view of Molokini, Kaho’olawe, and endless blue seas. Featuring a large grassy area perfect for picnics and barbeques, many local residents gather here on weekends. The long stretch of beach makes this park an ideal place to watch the sunset and spend time with family.

7. KEAWAKAPU BEACH

A long but quiet beach located in Maui’s south side, it is an excellent beach to take a romantic walk along the beach or leisurely watch the sunset. Though close to the road, the beach is bordered by many greenery and palm trees that calmly sways with the wind. Enjoy a spectacular view of the West Maui Mountains and the wind turbines from the sand.

8. WAINAPANAPA BLACK SAND BEACH

Last but certainly not least, Wainapanapa beach is worth every minute of the long drive to Hana. Located within Wainapanapa State Park, this remote beach offers a look into the wilder side of the island. Untamed black rock is starkly contrasted by crystal clear teal waters and lush native greens. If you are up for a little adventure, there are sea caves, hiking trails, and lava flow nearby.
