Event Details

Come learn the background and traditions of Hula, how it is used in the Hawaiian culture, and the basic hula steps to a beautiful mele (song) in Hawaiian. No previous experience necessary.

“Aloha, my name is Leinaala. I have been a hula dancer for 18 years. My love for hula is evident not only in my dancing but also in my ‘ohana.
My ‘ohana has danced for years and my keiki continue to dance to carry on our way of life.
As a Hawaiian, I have learned and practiced Hula as a lifestyle rather than a performance. The basic moves, practices and mele we dance to
are interpretations of how we live as people, how we breathe as people and are carried out from generation to generation.
As a teacher, I have the honor, the privilege and the kuleana to teach people our love for hula, as part of our culture, our way of living. It is
much more than a dance with choreography, Hula is LIFE. Hula gives LIFE.
I’d like to welcome you to experience Hula in a way that is memorable and life giving. A way we Kanaka ‘Ōiwi live, learn and practice as hula
dancers, and as ‘Ohana. Come and learn what it truly means to Hula.”
